Body Count Chronicles – Chapter 3: The Bride Strikes Back

The chat was on fire. Nobody wanted to leave. Nobody wanted to keep quiet.

“Na you start am!”
“Shut up joor. You snatched him first.”
“Liar! You told me to ditch him so you can collect.”
“Snake! Ashawo!”

Debby scrolled, shaking her head. Seven women, all pointing fingers, all trying to cover their shame with noise. Friends. Cousins. People who knew each other well. Now enemies inside one WhatsApp group.

And then—ping.

Another message from the bride-to-be.

“I see you all. Shouting. Fighting. But let me tell you something—what’s meant for me will always come to me.”

The chat went silent for two seconds. Long enough for everyone to stop typing. Long enough for the words to sting.

Then she continued:

“Yes, I knew all your games. I watched. I listened. And I laughed. Because in the end, who is he marrying? Me.”

Debby bit her lip. The girl wasn’t rattled. She was calm, like she had been planning this.

The bride wasn’t done.

“And don’t worry, you’re all invited. No asoebi. Come as you are. I want you front row. Watch. Smile. Cry if you like. It won’t change anything.”

“God punish you!” Ada fired back instantly.
“You’d regret this marriage!” another shouted.
“Ewu! Snake! Fool!”

The insults flew again. The bride ignored them. Instead, she twisted the knife.

“In fact, don’t come empty handed. Ada, bring wine. Ngozi, you handle cake. Amaka, I want that red dress you wore the night he came to your place. Let’s see it shine in daylight.”

Debby couldn’t believe it. The confidence. The audacity. The woman was untouchable, and that made everyone else more desperate.

Another ping. Blessing—one of the bride’s closest friends—was added. Without wasting time, she dropped her message.

“Una still dey here? 😂”

The group erupted again.

Debby put her phone down, staring at the ceiling. Her heart was racing. Her mind was a mess. This wasn’t just gossip anymore. This was war.

And she was right in the middle of it.

🔥 Cliffhanger for Chapter 3:
The bride is calm. The exes are furious. Debby is caught between shame, anger, and curiosity. But the fight has only just started.

Question:
Would you show up at that wedding to spite the bride—or stay far away and save yourself the embarrassment?
